Valentine's Day 2024

The SSBMI Language Department created stickers that say "I love you" in Nisenan and Northern Sierra Miwok for Valentine's Day 2024. Here, you can learn how to say the language on these stickers, which we encourage you to share with your loved ones!

Nisenan

Tuk’úm ni min.

Northern Sierra Miwok

Lékyɨmus.

Heads-up: In English, we can say things like "I love you" to just one person or to more than one person; the word 'you' is the same in both cases. In Nisenan and Miwok, there are different words for 'you' depending on whether you are talking to one person or more than one person.

The phrases on these stickers are all directed at one person. For example, you can say Tuk’úm ni min in Nisenan to one person but not a group.

Esak’ahá daak’ábe mi c’aykɨ́ɨ? (Do you want to know more?)

If you would like to learn more positive language that you can share with your loved ones, check out our Kind Words cards.

If you have any questions or would like a copy of the stickers, please visit the SSBMI Language Department in the SSBMI Tribal Administration building or contact us at language@ssband.org. Supplies are limited and we cannot guarantee copies for non-SSBMI Tribal Members.
