Activities

The SSBMI Language Department has created fun activity sheets which you can use to help learn Nisenan and Northern Sierra Miwok.

On this webpage, you can access Nisenan and Miwok coloring pages, word searches, and other resources that you can use to practice at home.

Esak’ábe mi? (Do you know?)

The SSBMI Language Department created "Go Fish!" cards that feature animals and their Nisenan/Northern Sierra Miwok names, which we use instead of using standard playing cards to play and learn language. You can learn more about "Welk’óy!" (Nisenan) & "Wélse’!" (Miwok) here.

Many of the activity sheets that we share here feature these same animals and their Nisenan and Northern Sierra Miwok names.

Menekɨ́m siyéebe hedém website-í? (Who makes this website?)

This website is maintained by SSBMI Language Department staff in order to share Nisenan and Miwok language learning resources with the Tribal Membership and other learners. Our current team consists of: Jonathan Geary, Richenda Ervin, and Skye Anderson. The Nisenan and Miwok audio recordings that you will find on this website are recordings of Jonathan, Richenda, and Skye. We are all learners of the Nisenan and Northern Sierra Miwok languages, and we hope that you will join us in learning Nisenan and Miwok too!

If you would like a copy of these activity sheets and cannot print them at home, please visit the SSBMI Language Department in the SSBMI Tribal Administration building or contact us at language@ssband.org.
